30”X40” Oil on Canvas
This painting was done after and from the sculpture I did bearing the same name.
Is a common theme in my work; exploration of women, beauty, aging, and purpose. In this case I was loosely working with a notion of Boticelli’s famous venus coming out of the clamshell. In this case she has a pearl in her mouth but looks somewhat rough, wartorn and disgusted.
She is surrounded by grey waves and perhaps barbed wire. The waves are certainly phallic in nature.
